Race for the Cure 5K

I ran in Pittsburgh's Race for the Cure 5K this morning to raise some money for the Susan G. Komen foundation.  I was really nervous for today because I had just run the half marathon a week ago and my run on Friday night had felt like I was running in sand - possibly a result of some overtraining on my part since most people don't just pick up and run a half without training properly for it

It was super chilly this morning but the event was so great and motivational that I wasn't really feeling the cold until about 10 minutes before the race began, when I was standing near the start, just waiting. I decided to give my fleece to Nick and run in my pink tank top and shorts - pink was the color of the day, as you all probably know.

I had no clue what the course would be like but I heard several people around me talking about the huge hills. Once I started running it, I realized that they weren't kidding. The very beginning of the course was uphill, followed by a slight downgrade. There was one section that snaked up a hill (I think it is nicknamed "the serpentine") that was so rough that I was sure I was going to have to walk. Luckily, the last half mile-ish was mostly a downgrade so I sprinted that.

My official time was 26:47 which is a personal record for me (by a few seconds). I was 44th in my age division of 30-39 so no medal today. *LOL*  All in all, it was a great day. I was a sobbing mess though - listening to people read the names of who they were walking/running for - such a beautiful event!!!
